One size fits all marketing does not work. In today's flat world, how do you incorporate cross-cultural awareness to adjusting your marketing to engage with different international markets? We asked  Cindy King "What are key international marketing trends and predictions for 2010? What actions should marketers take in 2010?".

International web marketing is heading for new horizons.

  • Recent ICANN legislation enabling URLs in non-Latin alphabets will impact the web environment in these countries.  This in turn will increase opportunities to engage with people in these countries in a meaningful way.
  • Social media continues to grow in different countries and as it does we will see more trends emerging with regards to different cultural preferences. This will help businesses to develop stronger international social media marketing tactics.

Although international web marketing has its challenges and limitations today, it will become more effective in the years to come.  And social media marketing will play an important role in learning more about how to market to different cultures.

The best way to take advantage of these new trends is to first observe the additional information as it becomes available and note the differences:

  • International data is becoming more granular and more relevant to international marketing
  • The different ways other cultures use social media and web marketing.  These preferences are evolving as people learn how to adapt social media to their own culture.

The next step is to apply some cross-cultural awareness to adjusting your marketing to engage with different international markets.  Social media is an ideal way to become acquainted with people from different cultures and to slowly identify the best ways to adjust your international marketing.
